Material System Concept Definitions
A Material System (MS)
- is a 1-D, N-layered set of material compositions, with boundary conditions at the surface and bottom layer.
- It provides a construct that can be assigned to vertices or texels or solids
A Layer
- has a thickness, and is comprised of 1 or more materials, each of arbitrary aggregate mass % in the layer. If particulate in nature, a material’s median characteristic particle diameter is specified.
A Material
- is a substance uniquely defined by a set of physical property values and associated property tolerances that are assumed homogeneous throughout
